ADVOCACY FUND UPDATE The ASCCA has established a fund to enhance our advocacy with the state legislature (e.g., legislative advocate’s travel, ASCCA’s annual legislative day lobbying, Government Affairs Committee initiatives). The committee’s efforts have had a huge impact and continue to protect the independent automotive aftermarket from legislation that have negatively impacted our members and small business owners all throughout the state. ASCCA MEMBERS JOINED EFFORTS TO HELP VICTIMS OF THE CALIFORNIA WILD FIRES

Donations went directly towards helping the families of victims like Bob Toepp and other ASCCA members impacted by the fires in both northern and southern California. ASCCA CARES Sacramento- As communities throughout Sonoma, Napa, and other Northern California counties begin the long process of rebuilding after the devastating wildfires, the Automotive Service Councils of California identified four of our members who have tragically lost their homes. In response, ASCCA’s Executive Committee established the ASCCA California Wildfire Relief Fund. We encouraged the automotive service industry to share the GoFundMe link on their business website and/or social media channels to help reach as many people as possible. NEW CALIFORNIA LAWS FOR 2018

Every year, hundreds of new laws are enacted that impact California automotive repair shops. Below is a short summary/highlights of some key measures that will take effect in 2018, unless otherwise noted. Minimum Wage Increase Reminder that effective January 1, 2018, the minimum wage for employers with 26 or more employees will increase to $11.00 per hour. The minimum wage for employers with 25 or fewer employees will increase to $10.50. (SB 3 of 2017) Smog Check Exemption This new law extends the exemption for performing vehicle smog check inspections from 6 years to 8 years.
